After more than three years, he returned Portuguese RICARDO PINTO QUINTET to the intended trilogy, called Sintra Project. After the debut album from November 2011, based again on the Lisbon digital label FEWG_records second sequel, under the title "Landscape".
Sintra is a city and region in the west of Portugal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This country is full of monasteries, churches and castles and mystical works and exists around it too exciting mystery dawn of Portuguese history. "This is where I was born, grew into a man and musician," said the trumpeter and composer Ricardo Pinto. And the magic of Sintra comes not only him, but also other members of his band: pianist Luis Barrigas, bassist (disciple Dave Holland) André Rosinha, drummer Rui Pereira and expressive alto saxophonist Bruno Margalho, a graduate of London's Goldsmiths College (and remained on the London stage in 2000 -2004, where he performed and recorded with the need Jonny Phillips, Tom Herbert, Christian Brewer, Damon Brown or Mike King), now in addition to jazz grown at home also pop (accompanied in Lisbon established British singer Zoey Jones and is a member of Náufragos)
The music on the album "Landscape" was specifically inspired by the scenery of the palace Quinta da Regaleira, characterized as mystical atmosphere. This is, of course, had to be reflected into that unique mixture of nu-jazz, contemporary chamber jazz, hard-bop, rock and film music. Each of the nine compositions is built on a prominent theme, breathing rate, accompanying riffs and rhythmic flow saturating often groovy. Ricardo Pinto is not printing to solo choruses at all costs, it leaves plenty of room especially saxophonist. Strong rhythmic bottom nu-jazz uncomplicated agility enchants the introductory track "Senhora do Monte". Much here giving yourself known pianist Barrigas. Acoustic piano then exchanged for electricity in the following song "Acabou por Nao Acountecer", which thus gave a thick coat fusion from which husked solos. The composition of "Gypsy" king rich sound and excellent thoroughbred solo leader. The ballad "Por Outro Lado" electric piano first culminated in jazz-rock monolith, which eventually erode the melodic solos, including a spreading bass. The "Clear Sky" will not only nu-jazz directness, but in the end also to free-jazz looseness. But I especially like the last three tracks - especially lyrical, artistically sophisticated and dynamic compositional pearl "Dragonfly" with davisovskou tube. Her then establishes its expression varies nu-jazz svižnůstka "long" and zlyričtělá coda in the form of minimalist title track.

Landscape is the second album recorded by Ricardo Pinto Quinteto's Sintra Project.
The sound and aesthetics of this record is inspired in the beautiful and mystical landscape of the village of Sintra. Elected by many intellectuals, aristocrats and artists as one of the most magical places in Europe, the village was also the birth place of Ricardo Pinto and 2 other members of the project. This second recording was, as an homage, recorded in the incredible scenario of Quinta da Regaleira, an intriguing and spectacular palace full of occult symbolism, that in many ways influences the vibe and mystical aura of the record. Ricardo Pinto is the main composer, but also Rui Pereira and Luís Barrigas, both the drummer and pianist of the quintet, contribute with compositions of their own to paint this Landscape. One might file this recording under Nu-Jazz or Contemporary Jazz, but according to the people behind Sintra Project, there are also influences of Pop and Film music, and the inspiring influence of musicians as Kenny Wheeler, Thomas Stanko, Freddie Hubbard, Miles Davis, Woody Shaw, Wayne Shorter, Brian Blade and Christian Scott. Ricardo Pinto Quinteto are: Ricardo Pinto (trumpet), Bruno Margalho (alto sax), Luís Barrigas (piano), André Rosinha (doublebass), Rui Pereira (drums)Sintra Project - Landscape Links Video http://youtu.be/8AmEHB8DD8E Player Believe http://player.believe.fr/v2/3614591002458 Lojas http://amzn.com/B00T6H900Ehttps://itunes.apple.com/pt/artist/ricardo-pinto-quinteto/id964352035

"My name is Dave. I'm the AllAboutJazz Download of the Day editor. I also write for Emusic.com and MusicIsGood.org.
Ricardo Pinto Quintet - Sintra Project
Intriguing debut album by this Portuguese jazz quintet. Could not find much online about this group, but I've been terrifically enamored with its steady drive and moody ambiance. The balancing act between a pleasant swing and determined rock-like rhythms, in addition to some nice harmonizing between horns and woodwinds, this recording would get slotted under Likely nu-jazz, Which means it'll appeal to fans Indie and modern jazzers alike. Nice little recording."
